Target Information

The androgen receptor (AR) is a member of the steroid-hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear receptors.
It is a ligand-activated transcription factor that binds testosterone (T) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT).
Upon ligand binding, the receptor translocates into the nucleus, dimerizes, and activates transcription of androgen-responsive genes.
AR signaling is crucial for male reproductive organ development and function, and also affects muscle, hair follicles, and brain.
Abnormalities in AR signaling are associated with diseases such as prostate cancer, Kennedy’s disease, and male infertility.
Mutations in the AR gene can cause complete androgen insensitivity (CAIS).
