Target Information
The DDX56 gene encodes a member of the DEAD box protein family, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD). These proteins are putative RNA helicases involved in various cellular processes requiring alteration of RNA secondary structure, such as translation initiation, splicing, and ribosome assembly. DDX56 shows ATPase activity in the presence of polynucleotides and associates with nucleoplasmic 65S preribosomal particles, suggesting a role in ribosome synthesis during the assembly of the large 60S subunit.
