Target Information
This potassium channel is controlled by G proteins. Inward rectifier potassium channels allow potassium to flow into the cell more readily than out. Their voltage dependence is regulated by extracellular potassium concentration; as external potassium increases, the voltage range of channel opening shifts to more positive voltages. Inward rectification is mainly due to blockage of outward current by internal magnesium. This receptor plays a crucial role in regulating the heartbeat.
