REST (RE1-Silencing Transcription factor)는 뉴런 제한 억제 요소(NRSE)에 결합하여 비신경세포에서 신경 관련 유전자의 전사를 억제하는 전사 억제 인자입니다.
이 단백질은 두 가지 주요 코리프레서인 mSin3 및 CoREST와 결합하여 히스톤 탈아세틸화효소 복합체를 REST 조절 유전자의 프로모터로 유도하고, BHC 복합체를 RE1/NRSE 부위에 모집하여 히스톤의 특정 부위를 탈아세틸화 및 탈메틸화함으로써 염색질 구조를 조절합니다.
