Target Information
Periostin (PN), also known as osteoblast-specific factor 2 (OSF-2), is a disulfide-linked, secreted protein that binds heparin and acts as a ligand for αVβ3 and αVβ5 integrins.
It functions as a cell adhesion molecule in preosteoblasts, promoting recruitment, spreading, and attachment.
Periostin is mainly found in the lower gastrointestinal tract, aorta, stomach, placenta, uterus, and breast tissues, and is upregulated in epithelial ovarian and breast cancers.
Its expression is increased by BMP2 and TGF-β1.
The protein contains a signal sequence, a cysteine-rich domain, four fasciclin-like repeated domains, and a C-terminal domain.
