Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for nucleosome structure in eukaryotic chromatin. Two molecules each of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4 form an octamer, around which ~146 bp of DNA is wrapped, forming nucleosomes. The linker histone H1 binds linker DNA between nucleosomes, aiding chromatin compaction. The H4 gene is intronless, encodes a histone H4 family member, and is located in the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6. Transcripts lack polyA tails and contain a palindromic termination element.
