Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열의 구성원으로, 중추신경계의 성상세포(astrocyte) 및 특정 성상교세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경계의 위성세포와 비수초성 슈반세포에서도 발현됩니다. 신경줄기세포 역시 GFAP를 강하게 발현하며, GFAP 항체는 성상세포 표지자로 널리 사용됩니다. 다양한 종류의 뇌종양에서 GFAP가 과발현되며, 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 타액선 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정 중 다른 교세포와 성상세포를 구별하는 데 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 드문 성상세포 질환인 Alexander disease를 유발하며, 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 여러 이소폼을 생성합니다.
