Target Information
This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). These are RNA-binding proteins that associate with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA) and are involved in pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport.
While primarily nuclear, some hnRNPs shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The hnRNP C protein forms tetramers and participates in assembling 40S hnRNP particles. Multiple transcript variants encoding at least two isoforms have been identified.
