Target Information
This gene belongs to the myocyte-specific enhancer factor 2 (MEF2) family of transcription factors. Members of this family regulate muscle and neuronal cell differentiation and development, influenced by class II histone deacetylases. Fusions with DAZAP1 have been found in acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell lines, suggesting a role in leukemogenesis. The encoded protein may also be associated with Parkinson’s disease and myotonic dystrophy. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
