MAPK3 (ERK1)는 serine/threonine kinase로, p90 RSK, MSK, ELK1, Stat3 등의 활성화에 중요한 역할을 하며 MAPK 신호 경로에 관여합니다. ERK1은 다양한 자극(성장인자, cytokine, 바이러스 감염, G protein-coupled receptor ligand 등)에 의해 활성화되며, 세포 증식, 분화, 세포주기 조절 등의 과정에 관여합니다. 활성화된 ERK1은 핵으로 이동하여 다양한 핵 타깃을 인산화합니다. 또한 ERK1은 여러 splice variant 형태로 존재합니다.
