Target Information
The mitochondrial preprotein translocases of the outer membrane (Tom) complex facilitates the import of nucleus-encoded precursor proteins across the mitochondrial outer membrane. This complex includes import receptors such as Tom20 and Tom22, which form a heteromeric receptor complex. Tom22 acts as both a receptor and docking point for Tom20 and the general import pore (GIP), enabling efficient translocation of preproteins into mitochondria.
