Product Specific Information
The RM4-5 monoclonal antibody reacts with the mouse CD4 molecule, a 55 kDa cell surface receptor expressed by most thymocytes, a subpopulation of mature T cells, and dendritic cells. CD4 binds to MHC class II on antigen-presenting cells and plays a critical role in T cell development and function. In T cells, CD4 associates with protein tyrosine kinase p56lck. Binding of RM4-5 is blocked by GK1.5.

Target Information
CD4 antigen is involved in recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed in T helper cells, and also in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Tissue expression includes thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain non-lymphoid tissues such as brain and gut. CD4 participates in early T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor complex and tyrosine kinase Lck, and may mediate neuronal damage in immune-related CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts exist (RefSeq, July 2017).
