Target Information
BMS1 (Ribosome biogenesis protein BMS1 homolog) is a 1,282 amino acid nuclear protein encoded by the human gene BMS1. It belongs to the BMS1/TSR1 family (BMS1 subfamily) and is believed to function as a molecular switch during maturation of the 40S ribosomal subunit in the nucleolus.
The 40S subunit, together with initiator tRNA and the 60S ribosomal subunit, forms the 80S ribosome complex, which is assembled by eukaryotic initiation factors (eIFs) at the mRNA initiation codon to begin translation initiation. The joining of these subunits requires eIF5B.
