Target Information
BMS1 (Ribosome biogenesis protein BMS1 homolog) is a 1,282 amino acid protein encoded by the human gene BMS1.
This nuclear protein belongs to the BMS1/TSR1 family (BMS1 subfamily) and is believed to act as a molecular switch during maturation of the 40S ribosomal subunit in the nucleolus.
The 40S ribosomal subunit is a component of the 80S ribosome complex, which also includes initiator tRNA and the 60S ribosomal subunit.
The 80S ribosome is assembled by eukaryotic initiation factors (eIFs) at the initiation codon of mRNA to begin translation initiation.
Joining of these ribosomal subunits requires eIF5B.
