Target Information
BMS1 (Ribosome biogenesis protein BMS1 homolog) is a 1,282 amino acid protein encoded by the human gene BMS1. It is a nuclear protein belonging to the BMS1/TSR1 family (BMS1 subfamily). BMS1 acts as a molecular switch during maturation of the 40S ribosomal subunit in the nucleolus. The 40S ribosomal subunit, together with the 60S subunit and initiator tRNA, forms the 80S ribosome complex, essential for translation initiation. Assembly of these subunits requires eIF5B.
