Target Information
The SSH1 gene encodes a member of the SWI/SNF family, which includes proteins with helicase and ATPase activities involved in chromatin remodeling and transcription regulation. The encoded protein is part of the ATP-dependent SNF/SWI complex that activates genes repressed by chromatin. It possesses two conserved domains:
- A DNA-binding domain that binds AT-rich sequences at the beta-globin locus
- A C-terminal domain that stimulates glucocorticoid receptor-dependent transcriptional activation
SSH1 may confer specificity to the SNF/SWI complex and recruit it to target sites through protein-DNA or protein-protein interactions. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
