Antibody detects endogenous levels of total SLFN11.

Target Information

SLFN11 acts as an inhibitor of DNA replication and promotes cell death in response to DNA damage. It functions as a guardian of the genome by eliminating cells with defective replication. SLFN11 blocks stressed replication forks by opening chromatin at replication initiation sites, potentially unwinding DNA ahead of the MCM helicase and halting fork progression, leading to cell death. It functions independently of ATR.

Additionally, SLFN11 serves as an interferon-induced antiviral protein that inhibits retrovirus protein synthesis, specifically suppressing production of viruses such as HIV-1 by targeting codon-usage-dependent viral protein synthesis. It binds tRNAs and exploits viral codon bias toward A/T nucleotides. The inhibition mechanism may involve tRNA sequestration, prevention of maturation, or acceleration of deacylation. SLFN11 does not inhibit reverse transcription, integration, or nuclear export of viral RNA.
