Target Information
CAP-E and CAP-C (Chromosome Associated Protein-E & C) are members of the SMC (Structural Maintenance of Chromosome) family that form a heterodimeric complex required for mitotic chromosome condensation, ensuring proper segregation of genetic information during cell division.
The hCAP-C/hCAP-E complex, a component of the condensin multiprotein complex, interacts with phosphorylated Histone H3 to mediate mitotic chromosome condensation.
Distribution patterns of the two heterodimeric complexes in the interphase nucleus indicate independent behavior during the cell cycle, suggesting that these complexes are involved in distinct aspects of mitotic chromosome organization in human cells.
