Target Information
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomal proteins are encoded by nuclear genes and assist in mitochondrial protein synthesis. Mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) consist of a small 28S subunit and a large 39S subunit, with approximately 75% protein to rRNA composition, unlike prokaryotic ribosomes. The DAP3 gene encodes a 28S subunit protein involved in apoptotic pathways initiated by TNF-α, Fas ligand, and IFN-γ. It may bind ATP/GTP and interact with mitoribosomal protein S27. Splice variants differing in the 5′ UTR encode the same protein, and pseudogenes are found on chromosomes 1q and 2q.
