Target Information
ERN1 (Endoplasmic Reticulum to Nucleus Signaling 1), also known as IRE1 alpha, is a serine/threonine kinase and endoribonuclease involved in the unfolded protein response (UPR) pathway.
It acts as a sensor of unfolded proteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and initiates signaling to the nucleus by splicing XBP1 mRNA, converting it into a potent transcriptional activator.
ERN1 is essential for embryonic viability and cellular response to ER stress conditions.
