Target Information
ERN1 (endoplasmic reticulum to nucleus signaling 1) is a serine/threonine kinase with intrinsic kinase and endoribonuclease activity, functioning as a key sensor in the unfolded protein response (UPR). It mediates signaling from the ER to the nucleus by splicing XBP1 mRNA, producing a potent transcriptional activator. ERN1 is essential for cellular viability under ER stress conditions and plays a critical role in extraembryonic cells during fetal development.
