Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.

Defensins (alpha and beta) are cationic peptides with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, forming an essential part of the innate immune system.
- Beta-defensins differ from alpha-defensins in the pairing of their three disulfide bonds.
- Six human beta-defensins have been identified: BD-1, BD-2, BD-3, BD-4, BD-5, and BD-6.
- They are expressed on certain leukocytes and epithelial surfaces.
- In addition to antimicrobial activity, they act as chemoattractants for immature dendritic cells and memory T cells.
- Beta-defensins are expressed as C-terminal portions of precursors and released by proteolytic cleavage.
- They contain a six-cysteine motif forming three intramolecular disulfide bonds.
