Target Information
HOPX is an atypical homeodomain protein that does not bind DNA and is required to modulate cardiac growth and development. It acts via interaction with SRF, modulating expression of SRF-dependent cardiac-specific genes. HOPX prevents SRF-dependent transcription by inhibiting SRF binding to DNA or recruiting histone deacetylase (HDAC) proteins that suppress transcription. Overexpression of HOPX causes cardiac hypertrophy and may function as a tumor suppressor.
