PDHB (Pyruvate dehydrogenase E1 component subunit beta, mitochondrial) is also known as PHE1B.
This mitochondrial enzyme is a component of the pyruvate dehydrogenase multienzyme complex (PDH) and catalyzes the first reaction of the oxidative decarboxylation sequence converting pyruvate to acetyl-CoA and CO₂.
Defects in PDHB are associated with pyruvate dehydrogenase E1-beta deficiency (PDHBD).
