Catenin alpha-1은 다양한 cadherin의 세포질 도메인과 결합하며, cadherin-catenin 복합체를 형성하여 액틴 필라멘트 네트워크와 연결됩니다. 이 복합체는 세포 간 부착(adherens junction)에서 중요한 역할을 합니다.
CTNNA1은 E- 및 N-cadherin 모두와 결합할 수 있으며, actin filament 조립을 조절하고 Arp2/3 복합체와의 경쟁을 통해 actin branching을 억제할 수 있습니다. 세포 분화 과정에서 중요한 역할을 수행합니다.
