Target Information
This gene encodes the major vault protein (MVP), a lung resistance-related protein. Vaults are multi-subunit structures possibly involved in nucleo-cytoplasmic transport. MVP mediates drug resistance, potentially via a transport process. It is widely distributed in normal tissues and overexpressed in multidrug-resistant cancer cells. Overexpression of this protein can serve as a marker of clinical drug resistance. Two transcripts are produced by alternative exon 2 usage, but both share the same open reading frame.
