Target Information
The Major Vault Protein (MVP) gene encodes a lung resistance-related protein. Vaults are multi-subunit structures that may be involved in nucleo-cytoplasmic transport. MVP mediates drug resistance, possibly via a transport mechanism. It is widely distributed in normal tissues and overexpressed in multidrug-resistant cancer cells. Overexpression of this protein is a potentially useful marker of clinical drug resistance. This gene produces two transcripts using alternative exon 2 sequences, but both share the same open reading frame.
