Mouse anti-Human beta-2 microglobulin antibody, clone 2213, recognizes native human beta-2 microglobulin — a 119 amino acid component of MHC class I molecules present on all nucleated cells, containing a single Ig-like C1 type domain.
Levels of beta-2 microglobulin can be used to assess renal function in kidney transplant recipients (Woo et al.).

Target Information

Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein that forms part of the MHC class I complex. It is expressed on various cells including lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial, and epithelial cells, but absent on erythrocytes.
It is also found in free form in plasma. The sequence of B2M is homologous to immunoglobulin constant regions and has a beta-pleated sheet structure.
B2M participates in antigen processing and presentation, TCR signaling, and CD8+ cell signaling.
Encoded by the B2M gene on chromosome 15, mutations in this gene can cause hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia.
Beta-2 microglobulin levels serve as markers for renal function and as a prognostic indicator in HIV infection.
