Target Information
CGREF1 (cell growth regulator with EF-hand domain 1), also known as CGR11, is a 301 amino acid secreted protein containing two highly conserved calcium-binding EF-hand domains essential for mediating cell-cell adhesion. Induced by p53, CGREF1 inhibits cell growth in various cell lines. The CGREF1 gene is located on human chromosome 2, which contains over 1,400 genes and represents nearly 8% of the human genome.
Chromosome 2 is also associated with several genetic disorders:
- Harlequin ichthyosis: linked to ABCA12 gene mutations
- Sitosterolemia: caused by defects in ABCG5 and ABCG8 genes
- Alstrom syndrome: a rare recessive disorder due to mutations in ALMS1 gene
