PDGFRA는 혈소판 유래 성장인자(platelet-derived growth factor) 계열의 리간드와 결합하는 세포막 수용체 티로신 키나아제입니다. 이 성장인자들은 중간엽 기원의 세포에 대한 유사분열 촉진 인자로 작용합니다. 결합된 성장인자에 따라 수용체는 α형 또는 β형 폴리펩타이드로 구성된 호모다이머 또는 헤테로다이머 형태로 존재할 수 있습니다. 생쥐 모델 연구에서 PDGFRA 유전자의 결손은 치명적이며, 이 수용체가 신장 발달에 중요한 역할을 함을 보여줍니다. 이형접합 생쥐는 신장 발달 결함을 나타냅니다.
