PDGFRA는 혈소판 유래 성장인자(platelet-derived growth factor) 계열과 결합하는 세포 표면 수용체 티로신 키나제입니다. 이 성장인자들은 중간엽 기원의 세포에 대한 유사분열 자극제 역할을 합니다. 수용체 단량체에 결합하는 성장인자의 종류에 따라 기능적 수용체는 α 및 β 폴리펩타이드로 구성된 동종 또는 이종 이합체로 존재합니다. PDGFRA 유전자 결손 마우스 연구에서, α형 수용체는 신장 발달에 특히 중요하며, 이 수용체의 이형접합 마우스는 신장 발달 결함을 나타냅니다.
