Product Specific Information

The monoclonal antibody 2F1 specifically reacts with soluble leptin receptor (sLR) with a molecular mass of approximately 180 kDa. The 2F1 antibody can be used to measure both free sLR and sLR bound to leptin in plasma.

Target Information

The leptin (OB-R) receptor is a member of the cytokine receptor superfamily and plays an important role in mammalian body weight homeostasis and energy balance. Activation of OB-R by the adipose tissue-secreted hormone leptin triggers downstream signaling via the Janus kinase (JAK)/signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT) pathway. Leptin can homo-dimerize OB-R extracellular domains, initiating intracellular signaling. Multiple isoforms of OB-R differing in length and signaling capacity exist. The long form of OB-R is expressed in the choroid plexus and hypothalamus, key centers for satiety and energy regulation. Mutations in OB-R (db) or leptin (ob) genes in mice cause early-onset obesity and metabolic abnormalities such as hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, and altered CNS activity.
