Target Information
Potassium channels are ubiquitously expressed proteins serving multiple functions in both excitable and non-excitable cells. The large conductance, calcium-activated potassium channel (Maxi K+) is activated by intracellular calcium increase and membrane depolarization. Its structure includes a voltage sensor and calcium-binding domain. In vascular smooth muscle, a beta-subunit associates in a 1:1 ratio, reducing the calcium concentration required for pore opening by 5–10 fold.
