The human ASH2L gene encodes a 628 amino acid protein (ASH2L1, isoform 1) that contains a nuclear localization signal and a PHD finger motif, suggesting a role as a transcription regulator.
Predicted molecular weight: 68.7 kDa.
Alternative splicing may produce isoforms of 60 kDa and 56.5 kDa.
- Homology: 60% with Drosophila ash2, 90% with mouse ASH2L
- Expression: Predominantly in adult heart and testis, fetal lung and liver; low in adult lung, liver, kidney, prostate, and peripheral leukocytes.
- Function: Involved in gene regulation during development and hematopoiesis; associated with specific leukemia cell lines (e.g., K562, Hel, Dami).
- Interactions: Suggested to interact with beta-tubulin and beta-catenin.
