FREM2는 basement membrane에 위치하며, 표피-진피 상호작용에 관여하는 삼원 복합체를 형성합니다. 이는 피부 상피의 구조적 완전성과 신장 상피의 분화 상태 유지에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
또한, FREM2 유전자는 유방 발달, 분화, 종양발생에 관여하는 전사인자 TFAP2C에 의해 전사 조절을 받습니다.
