Product Specific Information
This antibody detects endogenous levels of BRCA1 only when phosphorylated at Ser1387.
Target Information
BRCA1 (breast and ovarian cancer susceptibility protein 1) is a nuclear phosphoprotein involved in maintaining genomic stability and acts as a tumor suppressor. It forms part of the BASC (BRCA1-associated genome surveillance complex) with other DNA damage sensors and signal transducers. BRCA1 associates with RNA polymerase II and histone deacetylase complexes, contributing to transcription regulation and DNA double-strand break repair.
Mutations in BRCA1 are linked to approximately 40% of inherited breast cancers and over 80% of inherited breast and ovarian cancers. Multiple alternatively spliced variants exist, some associated with disease. A related pseudogene is also located on chromosome 17.
