PCDH15는 칼슘 의존적 세포 간 부착을 매개하는 카드헤린 초가족의 일원입니다. 이 단백질은 신호 펩타이드, 11개의 세포외 칼슘 결합 도메인, 막관통 도메인, 고유한 세포질 도메인으로 구성되어 있습니다. 정상적인 망막 및 달팽이관 기능 유지에 필수적이며, 해당 유전자의 돌연변이는 청각 손실과 관련이 있습니다. 이는 염색체 10번의 Usher syndrome type 1F (USH1F) 영역과 일치합니다.
