Target Information
CD34 is a highly glycosylated monomeric surface protein (111–115 kDa) expressed on multiple stem cell populations. It serves as a marker for hematopoietic stem cells and may function as a surface receptor involved in receptor-mediated endocytosis, adhesion, differentiation, and proliferation. CD34 expression represents a developmental state of hematopoietic cells with distinct adhesion properties. It may mediate stem cell attachment to bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells and act as a scaffold for lineage-specific glycans, facilitating interactions with lectins. CD34 also presents carbohydrate ligands to selectins and may participate in signal transduction via phosphorylation by protein kinase C. Dysfunctions in CD34 are associated with dermatofibrosarcoma and neurofibroma.
