Target Information

Carbonic anhydrase (CA) is an enzyme that catalyzes the rapid interconversion of carbon dioxide and water into carbonic acid, protons, and bicarbonate ions. It is abundant in mammalian tissues and plays a key role in pH regulation through hydrogen ion (H⁺) flux.
CA IX is highly inducible under hypoxic conditions via HIF-1α and is a reliable histochemical marker of hypoxia. Blockade of CA IX increases cell death under hypoxia, highlighting its importance in hypoxia-related cellular processes.
