Target Information
CHEK1 (CHK1) is a serine/threonine protein kinase involved in preventing replication when DNA integrity is compromised. It acts as a key mediator in the DNA damage-induced checkpoint network and functions to maintain genomic integrity under genotoxic stress.
When CHK1 inhibition abrogates the G2 or S checkpoint, p53-deficient cancer cells undergo mitotic catastrophe and apoptosis, whereas normal cells remain arrested in G1. Therefore, CHK1 is an attractive therapeutic target for cancer treatment, particularly in p53-deficient tumors.
