This antibody recognizes the alpha/beta-tubulin heterodimer, the fundamental structural unit of microtubules. Alpha- and beta-tubulins form an approximately 100 kDa globular heterodimer that polymerizes to form microtubules.
Western Blot: Reducing conditions recommended.
Target Information
Tubulin is the major component of microtubules, existing as a dimer of alpha and beta chains. Each binds GTP—one exchangeable on the beta chain and one non-exchangeable on the alpha chain. Human cells have at least six isotypes of both alpha and beta tubulin, encoded by a conserved multigene family.
Microtubules are essential for mitotic spindle formation and many cellular processes in both malignant and nonmalignant cells. Anti-microtubule agents such as Vinca alkaloids and taxanes can disrupt these functions.
