Erythrocytes containing fetal hemoglobin (F cells) can be found in individuals of any age, though typically in lower amounts than in fetal red cells. Elevated F cell levels may occur in hereditary persistence of fetal hemoglobin, sickle cell anemia, thalassemia major, or other anemic conditions.
