Product Specific Information
The SK1 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD8a, a 32–34 kDa cell surface receptor expressed as CD8 alpha/beta heterodimers or CD8 alpha/alpha homodimers. CD8a is present on thymocytes, mature T cells, and NK cells, and binds to MHC class I molecules. Through association with p56lck kinase, CD8a contributes to T-cell development and activation.

Target Information
Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein involved in T-cell signal transduction, differentiation, and activation. CD8 forms disulfide-linked heterodimers (CD8α/β) or homodimers (CD8α/α) and acts as a co-receptor for MHC class I molecules. It is expressed on T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells. Binding of MHC-I/peptide complexes triggers Lck kinase activation, leading to cytokine production and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation. CTLs play a key role in pathogen and tumor cell clearance, with differentiation enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
