• Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
• Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.

Target Information

Synaptophysin is a calcium-binding integral membrane glycoprotein found in presynaptic vesicles of nearly all neurons. It contains four transmembrane domains and forms a complex with dynamin at high calcium concentrations, suggesting a role in synaptic vesicle endocytosis. Synaptophysin is involved in short-term and long-term synaptic plasticity regulation and is widely used as a marker for nerve terminals and neuroendocrine tumor differentiation. Mutations in the gene are associated with mental retardation (X-linked 96).
