A suggested positive control is skeletal muscle tissue.
Target Information
Desmin (approximately 53 kDa) exhibits a high degree of tissue specificity, predominantly expressed in muscle cells (cardiac, skeletal, and smooth muscle). Its expression is stage- and tissue-specific, induced during terminal skeletal muscle differentiation.
In skeletal and cardiac muscle, desmin is localized in the Z-disk and intercalated disk regions. Expression in smooth muscle is more heterogeneous.
Coexpression of vimentin and desmin has been observed in muscle-derived tumors such as rhabdomyosarcomas and leiomyosarcomas. During myocardial dysfunction, notable changes in desmin distribution are observed.
