Target Information

CCR8 encodes a member of the beta chemokine receptor family, predicted to be a seven-transmembrane protein similar to G protein-coupled receptors. Chemokines and their receptors play key roles in the migration of various cell types to inflammatory sites.
This receptor is preferentially expressed in the thymus, and its known ligands include I-309, TARC (thymus activation-regulated cytokine), and MIP-1β (macrophage inflammatory protein-1 beta).
Studies suggest CCR8’s involvement in monocyte chemotaxis and thymic cell apoptosis, contributing to proper positioning of activated T cells within antigenic challenge sites and lymphoid tissues.
CCR8 expression has been reported in spleen, thymus, natural killer cells, monocytes, and T cells, with lower levels in peripheral blood leukocytes.
This gene is located in the chemokine receptor gene cluster region.
