Product Specific Information

This M204PA antibody recognizes mouse CD204, also known as Macrophage Scavenger Receptor 1 (MSR1), Scavenger Receptor A (SR-A), or SCARA1.
CD204 belongs to the class A family of scavenger receptors responsible for binding a wide variety of macromolecules and is involved in macrophage activity. Other members include MARCO (SCARA2), CSR (SCARA3), SRCL (SCARA4), and SCARA5.

All class A scavenger receptors are transmembrane proteins with extracellular C-termini and homotrimeric structures. CD204 exists as two splice variants:

  • Type I: full-length isoform (ubiquitous)
  • Type II: shorter isoform lacking the C-terminal cysteine-rich domain

Both isoforms are functional and bind modified LDL with similar affinity. CD204 plays roles in lipid metabolism, suppression of inflammation, and macrophage activation, and serves as a marker for M2 and tumor-associated macrophages.

This antibody binds CD204 across multiple mouse strains (C57Bl/6, Balb/c, Swiss-Webster), works on fixed cells, and can stain intracellular CD204. It does not cross-react with human or rat and is not suitable for IHC staining.

Tested by flow cytometry using mouse resident peritoneal exudate cells. Recommended ≤0.125 µg per test (100 µL final volume). Cell number may range from 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test. Titrate for optimal performance.


Target Information

The CD204 (MSR1) gene encodes class A macrophage scavenger receptors, including three isoforms (1, 2, 3) generated by alternative splicing.
These trimeric integral membrane glycoproteins are macrophage-specific and play roles in physiological and pathological processes such as atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and host defense.

  • Type 1 and 2: Functional receptors mediating endocytosis of modified LDLs
  • Type 3: Non-functional in endocytosis, retained in the endoplasmic reticulum, and can inhibit types 1 and 2 (dominant negative regulation)

Diseases associated with MSR1 include Barrett’s esophagus and prostate cancer.
