Target Information

CAMK2A (CaMKII alpha) is a serine/threonine kinase that regulates various cellular functions, including neuronal processes, gene expression, carbohydrate metabolism, cytoskeletal organization, and calcium homeostasis.
Autophosphorylation of threonine 286 in the presence of Ca²⁺ and calmodulin activates CAMK2A, enabling a switch from calmodulin-dependent to independent activity.
CaMKII is ubiquitously expressed and plays key roles in dendritic spine and synapse formation, neuronal plasticity, and calcium transport regulation in skeletal muscle. In neurons, it contributes structurally to actin cytoskeleton reorganization during plasticity by binding and bundling actin filaments in a kinase-independent manner.
