Target Information
PRELP is a leucine-rich repeat protein found in connective tissue extracellular matrix. It anchors basement membranes to underlying connective tissue and binds type I collagen (basement membranes) and type II collagen (cartilage). It also interacts with the basement membrane heparan sulfate proteoglycan perlecan. PRELP may be involved in the pathogenesis of Hutchinson-Gilford progeria (HGP), where collagen binding is deficient.
