Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, which regulates programmed cell death. BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, counteracting their anti-apoptotic function. Its activity is controlled by phosphorylation mediated by kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, and by phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing produces two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
